… Pledge to give welfare, education, security priority attention
The aspiration of Hon. Sergius Ogun, in clinching the ticket of Labour Party, en route to Osadebe avenue in Edo state, on Monday received a major boost as the Guber aspirant visited the leaders of the party in three Local Government Area, located in Edo South, namely Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha.
The visit is to appeal and draw more support for the aspirant ahead of the Labour Party Primary scheduled to hold later this month , in the 18 LGA of the state.
In the meeting held at the three LGA secretariat in Benin City, the state capital, Hon. Ogun explained his mission to the Osadebe Avenue, counting on his capacity to effectively do the job, further counting on his impactful proven track record which he told the leaders to go and verify in the two Local Government Areas where he represented between (2015-2023), as member representing Esan South East and Esan North East in the Federal House of Representatives. Emphasizing on the fact that he had won two primaries and two elections in the past, he appealed to the leaders to count on him to rescue the state from misrule. Pledging his readiness and allegiance to abide by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which primarily provides for the security and welfare of Nigerian irrespective of where you are born or where you resides.
Hon. Sergius Ogun also use the opportunity to clear the air over some misconception and false rumours held and spread by his political opponents targeted at demarketing the honest aspiration and personality.
The Leaders comprising of the LGA Executive Members, Ward Chairmen, Secretaries and women leaders turned out in numbers to receive Hon. Sergius Ogun who some described as “the one always there for the downtrodden”. Majority of them expressed readiness to support him owing to his proven track record. Prayers were said for his victory ahead of the primary and the election.
Hon Ogun promised to focus on the security and welfare of all citizens of Edo, likewise residents of the state. He explained that the provision of security and welfare for the citizens is the primary responsibility of the government as enshrined in the constitution of the Nation, just as he lamented over failure by the past and present government in ensuring the people benefit from this basic dividends of Democracy. He pledged to invoke this aspect of the constitution when he eventually wins both elections.
He lamented over the huge security challenge in the State as majority of investors are afraid to tap into the rich natural resources of the land, thereby increasing the sufferings of the people.
He further promised to build and equip more primary health centers in each wards, providing at least a qualified doctor, nurses and other health workers who will be paid robust hardship allowance. He added that staff quarters equipped with water and solar power will be built in each of the health centers. While official cars would be provided for the doctors and health workers that will be employed to provide health services in the health facilities.
The governorship hopeful further promised to improve the educational sector by building and equipping more schools, adding that he would introduce free primary and secondary education even as intelligent students will be given Bursary to complete their tertiary education successfully. Hon. Ogun further promised to employ more teachers for primary and secondary schools at the rural level and they will be paid hardship allowance regularly while staff quarters equipped with pipe borne water and solar power will also be provided for the teachers.
Speaking more on his governorship ambition, Ogun vow to give clear attention to the SDGs, which specially cover the area of basic education, quality health, clean and portable water and gender equality, as women will be given full attention. He explained that with his poor background while growing up as a young boy, he understands the plight of the poor masses in the streets and he will ensure the state government under his administration gives full autonomy to the Local Government to enable them discharge their constitutional duties effectively, which include asphalting three to four kilometer roads, provision of pipe borne water and other laudable projects, as he will task and charge the LG, to give account on the money spent from the Monthly Federal Allocation and monthly IGR.
While listening to the clearly spelt out plan and aspiration of the Frontline Governorship Hopeful at the three LGA party secretariats, the party leaders sang various praise songs in honour of Hon. Sergius Ogun, saying, “we have heard of your achievements and we are proud of you”. They further pray God grant him his heart desires geared towards bettering the lives of the people.
Leaders present at the Ikpoba-Okha LGA meeting with Hon. Sergius Ogun, include, Comrade Jeff Emuakpor, LGA chairman, Comrade Uwadia Omo-Osagie, LGA Secretary, Rev. Emmanuel Iroro, Pub. Sec. all ward chairmen, Secretaries, Youth leaders, amongst others.
While those present at the Oredo LGA, include, Comrade Enomayo Paul, LGA chairman, Chief Daniel Obakozuwa, LGA Vice chairman, Comrade Steven Enegbedion, David Ebida, Comrade Iyen Osato, Barr. Ivie Elemah, all ward chairmen and Secretaries.
And at Egor LGA Secretariat in Textile Mill Rd, the chairman, Comrade Kelly Amadin, was fully on ground with the LGA secretary, Comrade Omoregie PIV and the Obidient management team, including all Ward Chairmen and Secretaries, to receive Hon. Sergius Ogun, and his entourage, as they promised to give him their full support in actualizing his Governorship Aspiration.
