Edo State Disability Forum (EDF) on has solicited the support of Edo state government in the area of provision of Monthly stipends, food palliatives amongst others to mitigate the removal of fuel subsidy on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
Convener Edo Disability Forum (EDF), Melody Omosah made the call in Benin during a courtesy call on Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki at the Edo Government House.
Omosah, who is Executive Director, Network For the Advancement of People with Visible Disability (NAPVID)lamented the conditions of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state, demanding that policy makers, stakeholders, and the public should rally behind the course of Persons With Disabilities, and take collective action to ensure that no one is left behind in the wake of the changes.
Omosah who noted that the removal of fuel subsidy has adversely affected PWDs living in Edo, called on the Obaseki-led administration for inclusive and sustainable programmes and policies to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on PWDs living in the state.
Responding, Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by, Mr. Ogie Ogedegbe, Political Assistant to the Chief of Staff said the government was commited in the development and well-being of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
Ogie said that the Godwin Obaseki administration is not unmindful of their predicament and assured that necessary action that will positively impact PWDs will be done to improve their living conditions.
