LG Chairmen Suspended, Not Removed By House Of Assembly – Edo State Government Clarifies

In the bid to uphold true federalism, the Government of Edo state through the Chief press Secretary released a statement stating that the decisions by the Edo state House of Assembly vis-a-vis the Governor of the state are entirely Justified.
He stated that the suspension of the LG’s was done with the constitutional powers of the Governor of the state.The governor has right to exercise oversight over the local government Chairmen, inveiw of the ongoing investigation by EFCC.
He further stated that it’s not just about suspension but about true federalism,relationship between the state and local governments.
“it is important to state clearly that a suspension is not a punishment. Members of the Edo State House of Assembly did not remove chairmen of the 18 local government councils from office.They were only suspended to pave the way for a thorough investigation” he retorted .
