The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, is reportedly facing a severe financial crisis as his major financiers and backers have abandoned him amid his dwindling prospects at the ongoing Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

According to sources within the PDP, the situation has left Ighodalo demoralized and emotionally drained, with reports emerging that he recently shed tears over his worsening predicament.

The situation was further compounded when the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emperor Jarret Tenebe, publicly declared that Ighodalo was broke and unable to finance his legal battle against the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

A driver within Ighodalo’s convoy reportedly confided in a PDP chieftain, revealing that the PDP candidate has not been himself since Tenebe’s statement about his financial struggles.

The source said, “Oga has been worried ever since the APC chairman made that statement. Things have not been the same. He is losing sleep over this,” the driver reportedly told the PDP insider, who later relayed the conversation to our reporter.

Investigations reveal that Ighodalo’s financiers began pulling out after assessing the weak and contradictory testimonies from witnesses at the tribunal, concluding that the case may not yield any meaningful outcome.

“It seems there is no clear path to victory for Oga, many of his financial supporters have quietly withdrawn their backing, leaving him stranded and disillusioned. He shed tears and complained bitterly about this last week”, the source said.
