In a significant development, the Rivers State University (RSU) campus in Ogoni has been released to the Federal Government for the takeoff of the newly approved Federal University of Environment and Technology. This decision was announced by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during his visit to the Kira Campus of RSU, where he assessed the condition of the existing facilities and structures.
The Governor was conducted round the campus by the Vice Chancellor of RSU, Prof Okogbule Nlerum, Tai Council Chairman, Hon Matthew Dike, and former Vice Chancellor of RSU, Prof Barineme Fakae.
Governor Fubara said his visit to the Kira Campus of RSU was necessitated by the request from the Office of National Security Adviser to his Office to consider and approve the campus for the take off of the new Federal University.
The Governor explained that the existing structures, which were recently renovated by the RSU authority, and the vast land available will sufficiently accommodate the new university. He also commended the RSU management for maintaining the structures in good condition.
The Federal University of Environment and Technology was recently approved by President Bola Tinubu, and it will commence operations in the Kira Campus of RSU. Governor Fubara stated that the release of the campus is a significant step towards bringing development and increasing the educational level of the Ogoni people, particularly in the area of environmental impact.
The Governor also thanked the National Security Adviser for requesting the release of the campus and the President for approving the new university. He assured that the State Government will officially transmit a letter of release for the takeoff of the university.
