Edo State to Host 2025 Governor’s Cup, Enabulele Meets Stakeholders

Edo State is gearing up for the 2025 Governor’s Cup, a tournament designed to identify and nurture young talents in the state. The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, recently met with key stakeholders to discuss the successful planning and execution of the event.

The meeting was attended by top officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, the Permanent Secretary of the ESSC, and representatives from the School Sports Foundation and Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd.

The 2025 Governor’s Cup has been rescheduled to take place from April 28 to May 14, 2025, due to the Edo State Sports Festival and the National Sports Festival. The tournament is open to public and selected private schools, and will feature Under-16 students from JSS 1, JSS 2, SS1, and SS2.

Hon. Enabulele emphasized the importance of grassroots sports in identifying and nurturing young talents, stating that the event will help maintain Edo State’s position as a sports powerhouse in the country. The School Sports Foundation will oversee the organization of the tournament, while Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd. will sponsor the event.

The ESSC, Ministry of Education, and other relevant stakeholders will collaborate to ensure a successful tournament. Schools’ Game Masters will oversee the initial rounds at the school level, while zonal eliminations are scheduled for March 10–14, 2025.
