AAU Ekpoma’s 124th Inaugural Lecture: Expert Laments Nigeria’s Exorbitant Governance Costs

Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma’s Professor Benson O. Iganiga, a distinguished Professor of Economics, has called for a drastic reduction in Nigeria’s excessive governance costs, citing it as a significant drain on the nation’s resources. Professor Iganiga made this advocacy while delivering the 124th Inaugural Lecture, titled “Turning the Corners: The Dilemma of Within and Without Macroeconomic Policy Reforms and Poverty in Nigeria.”

Professor Iganiga criticized Nigeria’s National Economic policy, which he believes favors excessive governance costs over job creation, poverty reduction, and infrastructural development. He emphasized the need for a radical overhaul of the policy to achieve sustainable economic growth and prosperity.

Professor Iganiga identified excessive governance costs as a significant drain on Nigeria’s resources, he advocated for a radical overhaul of Nigeria’s National Economic policy to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth.

Professor Iganiga also emphasized the importance of job creation and human development in achieving a prosperous economy.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Prof Sunday Olowo Samuel, represented by Prof Mrs Eunice Omoregie, commended the timeliness of the lecture, given the current economic hardship facing Nigerians. The University’s AVC called on the government, policymakers, and stakeholders to initiate and implement people-friendly policies as recommended in the lecture.

The event was marked by the decoration of Professor Benson Iganiga and his admission into the community of academic giants.
