Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has maintained that he governed the state in accordance with the constitution and sense of duty since assuming office. In a message to Rivers people following the state-of-emergency declaration by President Bola Tinubu, Fubara emphasized that he prioritized the protection of lives and property, ensuring the state’s continuous progress.
Fubara described the emergency declaration as a “gloomy and unfortunate moment” in the state’s political history. Despite the political impasse, he claimed to have maintained constitutional order and the rule of law, putting the state’s interest above personal interests.
The suspended governor stated that he implemented the agreed terms of the peace brokered by President Tinubu in good faith. However, he alleged that the Rivers State House of Assembly frustrated his efforts to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Fubara highlighted that, despite the crisis, salaries of workers, pensioners, and others were paid regularly, and projects were commissioned. He urged Rivers people to remain resilient and law-abiding, assuring that efforts would continue to ensure democratic rule returns to the state.
