Residents of Edokpolor Street in Isiohor are living in fear as an abandoned gully erosion project threatens their homes and livelihoods. Initiated under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, the project aimed to curb the devastating effects of erosion in the area. However, its abandonment has left the community facing an imminent disaster.

Located off Aibalegbe Road, opposite the Evidence of the Gospel Church, Edokpolor Street is home to many families now at risk of displacement. The gully erosion has already begun swallowing homes, and with the rainy season approaching, residents dread the worsening situation.

Gully erosion is a widespread issue in Nigeria, often resulting from poor drainage, heavy rainfall, and unchecked human activities. If left unaddressed, it can lead to severe property damage and even loss of life.
The affected residents are calling on Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration to intervene urgently. The longer the project remains abandoned, the greater the risk of destruction and potential casualties. Completing the drainage project is not just necessary—it is critical to safeguarding lives and property.

The government must act swiftly to prevent a catastrophe. The people of Edokpolor Street and environs deserve a safe and secure environment, and it is the government’s duty to ensure that their concerns are met without delay.
