Uromi Killings: Edo Governor Orders Probe, Vows To Bring Perpetrators To Book

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of travelers by a local vigilante group in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area. The governor, who visited the town on Friday, March 28, 2025, to assess the situation, promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to initial reports, the victims were traveling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when they were intercepted by the vigilante group, who suspected them of being criminals. The governor expressed dismay over the heinous killings and directed the State Police Command and other security agencies to conduct a thorough and speedy investigation into the matter.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that there is no excuse for the vigilante members to take the law into their hands without recourse to statutory law enforcement agencies. He charged the community to work with the security agencies to fish out the culprits and commended community leaders, especially the leadership of Arewa community in the area, for de-escalating tensions and handling the situation with restraint.

This incident is the latest in a series of security challenges facing Edo State. Governor Okpebholo has been working to address these challenges, including declaring war on cultism in the state. The governor’s swift response to this incident demonstrates his commitment to ensuring justice and security for all Edo residents.
