A customer who allegedly beat a security guard, Ifeanyi Ani, to death at a popular eatery in Rumukrushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.
According to SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, the suspect was arrested on the day of the incident by the Mini-Okoro Police Division. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the transfer of the case to SCIID for comprehensive investigation.
The incident occurred on Thursday when the customer, whose identity has not been disclosed, parked his car at the eatery and left his headlamp on. An altercation ensued between the security guard and the customer over the headlamp, resulting in the customer allegedly beating the security guard to death.
Prince Wiro, a human rights advocate, revealed that the sister of the security guard, Chinaza Ani, had sought assistance from his organization, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, and its partner, Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative (LAWJII), in seeking justice. However, the family has requested a meeting with certain persons before proceeding.
