Two prominent socio-cultural groups, Esan People’s Progressive Union (EPPU) and Ibhiojie Progressive Union (IPU), have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his remarkable efforts to restore Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAU) to its former glory. At a media chat, the groups’ chairmen, Mr. Odion Okoduwa (EPPU) and Prince Arebamen Osemudiamen Jerry (IPU), praised the governor’s achievements in just six months in office.
The groups highlighted the governor’s notable accomplishments, including:
- Payment of N70,000 minimum wage to staff
- Timely payment of workers’ salaries
- Constitution and inauguration of a functional governing council
- Promotions of deserving staff
- Confirmation of over 80 professors
These achievements, according to the groups, have brought a new lease of life to the institution, restoring sanity and boosting morale among staff and students.
The groups, however, urged the governor to consider appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor without further delay. They cautioned against tribal sentiments in the choice of Vice Chancellor, emphasizing the need to prioritize the university’s well-being over personal gains.
The groups’ praise for the governor’s achievements is a testament to his commitment to improving the university’s fortunes. As AAU continues to experience a resurgence, stakeholders are eagerly watching for the governor’s next moves, particularly regarding the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor.
