A devastating gas explosion rocked a popular gas station in Rivers State on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The blast, which occurred at the Nobpet Petrol and Gas Filling Station located opposite the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt, destroyed several cars and buildings, with estimated damages running into millions of naira.
The explosion, which happened in the early hours of Friday, sent shockwaves through the environment, causing widespread panic and tension. Vehicles parked on the premises were engulfed in flames, while nearby buildings sustained severe damage. The impact of the blast was so intense that it left a lasting impression on witnesses and nearby residents.
Fortunately, despite the extensive damage, no casualties have been reported. Security operatives and fire service personnel sprang into action, working tirelessly to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with flames shooting high into the air and thick smoke billowing from the gas station. One witness said. “I was awoken by a loud explosion, and when I looked out, I saw flames everywhere. I’m just grateful no one was hurt.”
The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, but investigations are expected to commence soon. In the meantime, residents and business owners in the area are assessing the damage and trying to come to terms with the incident.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety measures and regular maintenance at gas stations and other potentially hazardous facilities.
