…as Edo harvest Gold in weightlifting, Kunful
The Executive chairman, Edo State Sports Commission Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has expressed confidence in the ability team Edo Cricket, Kickboxing, Gymnastics and Kunful to deliver at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Edo state sports Commission boss was speaking at the Cricket Pavilions in the MKO Abiola Sports Complex after the Edo Cricket team’s first game at the 22nd National Sports Festival.
Hon Enabulele commended the Edo Cricket players for their dedication and commitment which they exhibited during their match against Delta State at the Cricket Pavilion, MKO Abiola Stadium.
“Our cricket teams,male and female are unquestionably our major stronghold and are always contenders for gold medals,” he enthused.
He said that he was impressed by the performance of the male cricket team and urged them to keep the flames up and maintain the momentum as the competition continues
“Cricket is one of our strongholds and that is why we’ are here to support them fully to ensure that we clinch the gold medals available there”. He emphasized.
The Edo State Sports Commission boss who went round all the event centers to support his athletes also visited the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ikenne, venue for the weightlifting competitions to encourage Edo athletes competing in various events.
Meanwhile, team Edo weightlifting and Kunful athletes have powered up the state to winning four Gold,14 silver and 14 Bronze medals to have a total of 32 medals as at 6pm on Tuesday.
Team Edo got off to a winning start on Tuesday as
John Aladetun registered his name in Gold with 2 Gold and 1 Silver medals in 67 kg Men Weightlifting event early in the morning.
Kelly Alonge followed the footsteps of his compatriots in weightlifting, harvesting 2 Gold medals in Kung Fu Daoshu .
Edo Female Handball Team also delivered a commanding performance,defeating their Kano state counterparts at the Alake Sports Centre with 33 – 15 points result.
