The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has taken a significant step towards reform and accountability under the leadership of Hon. Ezehi MD Igbas. In its inaugural plenary session, the commission reinstated seven staff members who were wrongly dismissed due to alleged political victimization.
The cases of Mr. J. Ohiokhuobo and Mr. S. Haruna, who were accused of absconding from duty without permission, were reviewed. The committee found that their dismissal was orchestrated by the previous administration and recommended their immediate reinstatement, promotion, and payment of three months’ salary arrears.
Similarly, Mrs. Ego Aguinede and Mrs. Marian Edoror, who were unjustly retired and dismissed, were reinstated with payment of arrears and a promotion for Mrs. Edoror. The commission also addressed promotion disputes and appointment irregularities, ensuring fairness and justice for affected staff members.
In a bid to boost staff morale and productivity, the Tenders Board Committee presented a comprehensive procurement and maintenance report. Approved projects include roof replacements, procurement of solar-powered infrastructure, and office equipment.
The commission also championed labor rights, endorsing the reinstatement, promotion, and payment of salary arrears for Mr. Micheal O. Amaize, Mr. Kadiri A. Ezelomeh, and Mr. Roland E. Eigbe, who were dismissed due to union activities. Each will receive N500,000 in damages and N50,000 in general costs.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Adhoc-disciplinary committee investigated petitions against former secretary Bar. Osahon Newton Ahunwan. Findings included
– Fraudulent sewage disposal claims totaling ₦18 million with no physical evidence
– Missing audit certificates amounting to ₦25.005 million
Bar. Ahunwan was ordered to refund 10% of the misappropriated ₦18 million and send an apology letter to the Commission. His transfer to another ministry was also approved.
Hon. Ezehi Igbas emphasized the commission’s commitment to fairness, discipline, and reform, protecting staff who adhere to rules while holding accountable those who flout laws and bring disrepute to the institution
