A violent protest by suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo boys,” in Ishior, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, has left a tricycle spare parts dealer and a police officer injured.
The protest, sparked by alleged harassment and intimidation by security agencies, saw youths vandalizing a security van and attacking a police officer. Lucky Akoda, a 40-year-old tricycle spare parts dealer, was hit by a stray bullet and rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
In a shocking twist, Akoda was handcuffed to his hospital bed by the police, who claimed he was a suspect. His wife, Benedicta, pleaded for his release, saying he’s an innocent businessman.
The incident raises concerns about the treatment of innocent civilians during protests. The situation highlights the need for security agencies to exercise restraint and protect lives.
Let’s hope for a peaceful resolution and justice for Akoda.
