The Edo State Sports Commission has expressed deep sorrow over a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of 22 members of the Kano State contingent, including athletes, officials, and sports journalists, while returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State. The tragic incident occurred at the Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government area of Kano State.
In a statement, the Head of Public Relations and Media Department, Kehinde Osagiede, conveyed the condolences of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and the entire management of the Edo State Sports Commission. They described the incident as a monumental loss to the Nigerian sports community.
The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow we extend our condolences to the Government of Kano State, Kano State Sports Commission, and the National Sports Commission over the tragic incident. Our hearts are with the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, athletes, and the people of Kano State.”
The Edo State Sports Commission boss recalled the vibrant presence of the deceased individuals during the Kickboxing event, noting the shock of learning about their passing shortly after. The commission prayed for the souls of the departed to be accepted and for their families to find strength in this difficult time.
