In a significant milestone for grassroots security enhancement, the sons and daughters of Edo Central are jubilating over the creation of a mobile police squadron 82, reportedly approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Inspector General of Police. This development is being hailed as a “generational achievement” and a long-awaited breakthrough in the region’s security architecture.
According to sources, the squadron 82 which is sited in Idikhala Uromi, Esan North East LGA, is expected to deploy no fewer than 700 well-trained and fully equipped mobile police officers across the five local government areas that make up Edo Central, namely Esan North-East, Esan Central, Esan West, Esan South-East, and Igueben. This strategic deployment is expected to usher in an unprecedented level of security presence in the region, providing citizens with a renewed sense of safety and security.
Special recognition has been given to the swift response and unwavering support of Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, who granted immediate approval and ensured that the process did not suffer any delays. His leadership and commitment to enhancing security in the state have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Also earning high praise is Prince Odi Okojie, Member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Oil and Gas Midstream. He played a key role in navigating both legislative and executive corridors to facilitate the squadron’s approval, demonstrating his dedication to the welfare and security of his constituents. Furthermore, Prince Okojie reportedly donated a Hilux patrol vehicle to support the squadron’s immediate deployment efforts, underscoring his commitment to the project’s success.
Additionally, Rt. Hon. Barr Sergius Ogun’s immense contributions were instrumental in moving the motion in the floor of the House of Representatives for a mobile police barracks to be sited in Uromi and for his financial contributions and follow-up to ensure the project saw the light of day. His efforts have been recognized as crucial to the realization of this security milestone.
The creation of the mobile police squadron marks a new era in security enhancement for Edo Central, and stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on the region. With the squadron now operational, strategic deployments will soon be rolled out across the five local government areas, providing citizens with enhanced security and a renewed sense of hope for a safer future.
This achievement is a testament to the power of collaborative efforts and the commitment of leaders to the welfare and security of their constituents. As the people of Edo Central celebrate this milestone, they look forward to a brighter, safer future, knowing that their security needs are being prioritized.
