Gov. Okpebholo Urges Nigerians to Renew Commitment to Democratic Ideals on June 12

As Nigeria commemorates its Democracy Day on June 12, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has called on citizens to reflect on the significance of this day and renew their commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and unity.

According to Governor Okpebholo, June 12 serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians who championed the cause of true democracy. He urged citizens to safeguard the hard-won freedoms and democratic gains, emphasizing that democracy thrives on active citizen engagement.

The Governor highlighted his administration’s dedication to people-centered governance, noting that the ‘SHINE’ agenda is geared towards delivering tangible improvements in the lives of Edo people across all sectors, including security, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

“Our administration is built on the bedrock of democratic principles and the belief that governance must be responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that the dividends of democracy are widely distributed, fostering an environment of peace, progress, and economic prosperity for all.”

Governor Okpebholo urged Edo citizens to continue their active participation in the democratic process, holding leaders accountable and contributing constructively to the state’s development. “Democracy thrives on active citizen engagement,” he said. “I implore you all to remain vigilant, participate meaningfully in civic responsibilities, and collectively work towards strengthening our democratic institutions.”

As the nation celebrates Democracy Day, Governor Okpebholo wishes all Edo people and Nigerians a peaceful and reflective day, praying for continued peace, unity, and progress in the state and the nation.
