On her first day in office, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, the newly appointed Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA), held a meeting with staff members of the Ministry of Education. The meeting was a clarion call to action, as Dr. Ogbemudia expressed her commitment to taking education in Edo State to an enviable height.
Dr. Ogbemudia lamented the decay in the state’s education system, noting that many Edolites prefer to send their children to private schools due to the decline in public schools. However, she remains optimistic about the potential for transformation. “Quality is not an act, it is a culture, a character and a commitment to doing what is right even when no one is watching,” Dr. Ogbemudia emphasized.

With over a decade of experience in educational management and administration, Dr. Ogbemudia brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. Her appointment is part of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda to reposition the state’s education sector and ensure global standards in public learning institutions.
With Dr. Ogbemudia at the helm, the DEQA is poised to make significant strides in improving the state’s education sector. Her leadership is expected to drive critical reforms in school supervision, curriculum quality control, and performance evaluation across Edo State. The Directorate’s functions will be crucial in advancing governance, fostering political stability, and delivering specialized services tailored to the needs of Edo State’s populace. As the DEQA embarks on this new journey, one thing is certain – the future of education in Edo State looks bright.
