Edo State Government Synergizes with Federal to Deepen Quality Education in Edo State

In a significant move to align efforts and reinforce quality assurance mechanisms in education, the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA), Edo State, welcomed the Director of the Federal Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability, Mrs. C.A. Ikem, on an official courtesy visit. This landmark engagement marks a new phase of federal-state collaboration aimed at promoting standardization, accountability, and excellence in education delivery across Edo State.

Mrs. Ikem, during her visit, expressed profound delight at the establishment of DEQA, describing it as a strategic and forward-thinking initiative that provides a one-stop shop for implementing quality education standards. She noted that Edo State has taken a bold step in creating a centralized mechanism for educational oversight, which aligns seamlessly with national quality assurance goals and frameworks.

She further applauded the vision of the Edo State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, commending the Governor for appointing a tested and trusted education expert, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia Uhunmwangho, as Director-General of the Directorate. According to her, placing a professional with deep-rooted knowledge and understanding of the education sector at the helm of DEQA is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to sustainable and transformative educational reforms.

In her words: “When experts are entrusted with leadership, the outcomes are not only impactful but long-lasting. Dr. Ogbemudia’s leadership gives hope that Edo State is on a fast track to becoming a model for education quality and accountability in Nigeria.”

As part of the visit, Mrs. Ikem formally presented the Federal Quality Assurance Training Manual to DEQA. The manual, a comprehensive resource developed by the Federal Directorate, is intended to guide the training, supervision, and monitoring processes of Quality Assurance Officers across the country. Receiving the document, Dr. Ogbemudia expressed appreciation and affirmed DEQA’s readiness to adopt the manual in enhancing school inspections, institutional evaluations, and staff capacity-building programs.

The high-level meeting also featured discussions on collaborative opportunities such as:

Harmonization of inspection tools and reporting systems

Joint training and certification of Quality Assurance personnel

Development of a shared education data repository

Alignment of state and federal quality assurance policies

Strategic partnerships for school improvement initiatives

Mrs. Ikem reiterated the Federal Directorate’s commitment to supporting DEQA and urged the state to continue building on its early achievements. She emphasized the need for unified frameworks, consistent evaluation standards, and strong leadership to move Nigeria’s education sector forward.
