In a significant operation, the Special Security Squad, Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, has apprehended several notorious cult leaders and members in Benin City. The squad, established by Governor Monday Okpebholo, aims to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the people of Edo State.
On Friday, July 18, 2025, the squad conducted a coordinated raid on several hotspots in Egor Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of a suspected cult leader and the recovery of weapons from his hideout. The operation was intelligence-driven, and the team was guided by professionalism and accountability.
A member of the team, Ameloemen Idemudia Noah, emphasized that the operation is not politically motivated and that community engagement remains a key aspect of their work. He noted that the team has received cooperation from community members who have complained about the activities of the arrested cultists.
The team’s mandate is to flush out kidnappers and cultists, and in the process, other crimes may surface. Noah stressed that the killing and insecurity in the state must be stopped, and all criminal elements must be brought to book to ensure the state is safe for all Edo people.
The squad recovered guns and other illegal arms from the cultists’ hideouts, demonstrating the effectiveness of their operation. The team’s efforts are a testament to the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration’s commitment to keeping Edo State safe.
