Building on the Renewed Hope Agenda of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Hon. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, today formally unveiled the Mandate, Vision, and Mission of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA). The landmark event, held at Block B, Fourth Floor, State Secretariat, marked a bold step toward institutionalizing quality, transparency, and accountability across non-tertiary education in Edo State.

DEQA, envisioned as a core driver of the Governor’s education reforms, is tasked with overseeing teaching standards, learner and teacher attendance, and the application of digital monitoring tools in all public, private, formal, and non-formal schools across the state.

Taking the reins of this strategic unveiling, Hon. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, a seasoned education administrator and passionate reformer, delivered a rousing address that underscored the urgency of restoring discipline and excellence in the education system. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to raising the bar in education delivery, stating that DEQA would serve as the watchtower of quality in Edo schools.

“This unveiling signals a new era for education in Edo State. We are not only raising standards—we are also building a system that thrives on integrity, innovation, and impact. DEQA will ensure that every child in Edo, regardless of background, receives the quality education they deserve,” Hon. Iyamu declared.

Renowned for his proactive leadership and unwavering dedication to reform, Hon. Iyamu has consistently driven policies that promote equitable access, learner performance, teacher accountability, and school improvement. His decisive leadership in birthing DEQA reflects a clear vision for a transformed education landscape—one where oversight is not just administrative, but purpose-driven and results-oriented.

At the event, the Director-General of DEQA, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, announced the immediate commencement of digital inspectorate activities and quality assurance audits. With over a decade of experience in educational leadership, Dr. Ogbemudia assured stakeholders of the Directorate’s readiness to collaborate with all schools, communities, and government agencies to ensure compliance, drive innovation, and uplift standards.

The unveiling of DEQA is not just an administrative milestone; it is a bold statement of intent—led by a Commissioner who believes that the future of Edo State depends on what we invest in our classrooms today.
