Edo State Sees Bright Future with New Infrastructure Projects in Education, Commerce

The Edo State Government has taken a bold step towards transforming the state’s education and economic landscape by approving a series of landmark infrastructure projects. These projects, which include the construction of modern lecture theatres, student hostels, and markets, as well as the renovation of schools, are designed to strengthen education and boost economic activities across the state.

Briefing journalists after the State EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, disclosed that the Council approved three major building projects for Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma. These projects include: 1,500-seater state-of-the-art lecture theatre that will provide a conducive learning environment for students.Twin 300-capacity modern lecture theatre that will enhance the learning experience for students and 600-bed modern hostel that will address the accommodation needs of students and provide a safe and comfortable living environment.

The EXCO also approved the remodeling and reconstruction of eight secondary schools across Edo State, in addition to the commencement of Phase Three of the Basic Schools Renovation Programme. The benefiting local government areas include: Ovia North East, Ikpoba-Okha, Etsako West, Esan West, Uhunmwonde, Etsako East and Esan Central.

The EXCO also endorsed several projects under the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOPADEC). These projects include: The construction of four modern markets in Orhionmwon, Ikpoba-Okha, and Ovia North East Local Government Areas, the supply of 25 transformers to boost electrification in oil-producing communities and construction of a modern market at the popular Jattu Market in Edo North.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, emphasized the administration’s commitment to making quality education accessible to every Edo child. “The government of Senator Monday Okpebholo is determined to equip Edo children with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s society. This explains the administration’s focus on renovating and upgrading schools across the three senatorial districts,” Dr. Iyamu explained.

The Edo State Government’s ambitious infrastructure projects are expected to have a significant impact on the state’s education and economic landscape. With these projects, the government aims to provide a conducive learning environment for students, boost economic activities, and improve the livelihoods of the people.
