The Edo State Special Security Squad, “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” has successfully dismantled five suspected kidnapper camps in the Ekeke Erah Forest, Owan East Local Government Area, following an extensive bush-combing operation. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, local vigilante groups, and other sister security agencies.

Security operatives trekked nearly five kilometers deep into the forest, uncovering and destroying the camps between Afuze and Ora. According to Eribo Ewanta, a member of the Squad, signs of recent activity confirmed that the camps were still in active use. The team found evidence of cattle grazing in the forest, raising suspicion that the hideouts may have been linked to armed herdsmen.

The operation escalated into an exchange of gunfire at a riverbank as suspected kidnappers attempted to evade capture. Although the suspects escaped deeper into the forest, the security team dismantled and destroyed their camps. Ewanta declared, “Edo State will no longer provide a safe haven for criminal elements.”

The security team assured Edo residents that the operation marked only the beginning of sustained efforts to flush out kidnappers and other violent groups from the state. Ewanta commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering resolve to fortify security across the State, noting that the administration’s coordinated security strategy is restoring public confidence and sending an unmistakable message to criminal networks.

The successful operation demonstrates the commitment of the Edo State government to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. With the camps dismantled and the suspects on the run, the people of Edo can rest assured that their security is being prioritized
