The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable groups from all forms of violence, cruelty, and neglect.
This assurance was given by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, while addressing a recent case of child abuse involving a nine-year-old girl, Anointed Obasuyi, who was allegedly subjected to severe maltreatment by her uncle’s wife, Mrs. Jennifer Ighodalo.
According to Mrs. Abdallah, the teacher’s vigilance led to the discovery that the child was being subjected to abuse, often coming to school without lunch and struggling academically. The teacher reported the case to the Ministry after discovering the burns, allegedly inflicted by the child’s caregiver, Mrs. Jennifer Ighodalo, using a hot knife.
The Ministry swiftly intervened to ensure the child’s safety and initiated actions to bring the perpetrator to justice. Mrs. Abdallah assured that the state government would not tolerate any form of violence against vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
“We will not hesitate to ensure that perpetrators of such heinous acts face the full weight of the law,” Mrs. Abdallah emphasized, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting children’s rights.
The Edo State Government urges citizens to report cases of child abuse to the Ministry, assuring prompt action and protection for victims.
