The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is gearing up to commemorate its 60th anniversary with a series of special events, including Jumat Prayer and Thanksgiving services. The services will be held in all State Chapters and the FCT on Friday, October 24, and Sunday, October 26.
According to a statement by the Media and Publicity Committee of the anniversary, the celebration will officially begin with a Jumat Prayer on Friday, October 24, and a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 26, in all State Chapters and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The statement added that the exact venues for the prayers and thanksgiving would be announced by the leadership of each chapter, ensuring simultaneous observances across the federation.
The National Leadership of SWAN, under the presidency of Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, extended a warm invitation to government functionaries, sports enthusiasts, members of the association, and the general public to join SWAN members in expressing gratitude to God for six decades of impactful journalism and contributions to Nigeria’s sports development.
“It will also be an opportunity for us to collectively pray for the protection of members, better fortunes for Nigeria’s sports men and women, and a more prosperous sports sector,” the statement read.
As part of the anniversary line-up, the SWAN Diamond Jubilee and Awards Ceremony will also feature the Full Council Meeting an assembly comprising the National Executive Council, Zonal Vice Presidents and Secretaries, as well as State Chairmen and Secretaries of the association.
All major events marking the 60th Anniversary will take place at the National Stadium, Abuja, from October 29 to October 31, 2025, with dignitaries, sports administrators, and veteran sports journalists expected to grace the occasion.
The 60th anniversary celebration, themed around unity, gratitude, and professional excellence, reflects SWAN’s enduring legacy as the voice of Nigerian sports journalism and its unwavering commitment to promoting sports development and integrity across the nation.
