In a major overhaul of the country’s military hierarchy, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of new Service Chiefs, effective immediately. This strategic move aims to bolster Nigeria’s national security architecture and enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces.
According to a statement signed by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), taking over from General Christopher Musa.
The President also approved the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes the Chief of Air Staff. In the same vein, Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes charge as the Chief of Naval Staff.
However, in a show of confidence and continuity, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, dedicated leadership, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.
The President charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them, urging them to demonstrate the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that have long defined the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The appointments, the President emphasized, take immediate effect.
