The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to roll out the drums in celebration of 70 years of women in policing, honouring seven decades of courage, resilience, and distinguished service by female officers who have shaped law enforcement in the country since 1955.
Under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the landmark celebration is scheduled to hold from December 3 to 4, 2025, bringing together serving and retired female officers to commemorate their trailblazing contributions to national security and public safety.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP applauded the invaluable impact of women in the Force, noting that their dedication, professionalism, and compassion have strengthened policing and built deeper community trust across the nation.
“The commitment and excellence displayed by our women officers continue to be integral to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Nigeria Police Force,” the IGP said.
Since the enlistment of the first set of policewomen in 1955, women have made significant strides within the Force excelling in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and command leadership. Over the past seven decades, they have redefined policing in Nigeria through integrity, empathy, and excellence.
Activities marking the anniversary will include a national lecture, a historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme, all designed to celebrate the legacy of women officers and spotlight their evolving role in modern law enforcement.
The IGP reaffirmed his commitment to gender inclusivity, professional development, and capacity building for female personnel, stressing that empowering women remains key to achieving a balanced, community-oriented policing model.
The Force also expressed heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, both past and present, for their courage, sacrifice, and service to the nation describing them as “a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and to Nigeria at large.”
