The Edo State Government’s renewed approach to tackling insecurity is beginning to yield remarkable results, as reports indicate a sharp decline in kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state in the past four weeks.
According to credible security sources, the improved situation follows the deployment of a new operational strategy by the state’s security network, designed to dislodge criminal elements from their forest hideouts and restore peace across all senatorial districts.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, the leader of the security team disclosed that the strategy compelled kidnappers to flee their camps and abandon all abducted victims. “Our operation forced them to leave the forest and release those they had held captive. Unfortunately, ransom had already been collected from two victims before our arrival,” he stated.
He further revealed that security operatives have continued with intensive clearance operations across major forest belts from the Owan/Akure axis to Ologbo, Orhionmwon, Ewatto/Ewohimi, Ugboha, Uzea, Ekperi, and the forests of Edo North. This, he said, has resulted in a drastic reduction of criminal activities and a renewed sense of safety among residents.
He commended the support and leadership of Governor Okpebholo in strengthening inter-agency collaboration and ensuring that logistics and intelligence-sharing mechanisms are fully functional.
He, however, urged residents to remain alert and cooperate fully with security personnel by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities within their communities.
“Security is everyone’s responsibility,” he emphasized. “We’ve made progress, but we need community support to sustain it.”
With the latest development, Edo residents are beginning to regain confidence that the government’s renewed focus on security is yielding tangible results.
