…Company Reaffirms Commitment to Ethical, Future-Ready Journalism

Seplat Energy has empowered 35 journalists from Edo and Delta States with contemporary media skills as part of its ongoing investment in strengthening Nigeria’s media landscape.
The two-day capacity-building workshop, held in Benin City, brought together print, broadcast, and online journalists from Benin, Asaba, Warri, Sapele, and neighbouring communities. The training covered modern report writing, mobile journalism, personal effectiveness, media technology, and digital marketing.
Welcoming participants, Stanley Opara, Manager, Corporate Communications at Seplat Energy Plc who represented the Director, External Affairs & Social Performance, Chioma Afe said the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to promoting professionalism and impactful journalism.
“Continuous learning is crucial for journalists, especially in an industry that evolves daily. Seplat is committed to helping the media grow because a strong media system benefits everyone,” he stated.
He added that the company would continue to partner with the media to create meaningful, long-term impact.
The workshop’s sessions were led by top media and development experts.
Media trainer Mr. Nnamdi Uwaemelulam facilitated modules on effective report writing and mobile journalism. He emphasised clarity, compelling leads, fact-checking, and demonstrated how smartphones and digital tools can enhance storytelling. He later explored emerging media technologies and urged journalists to embrace innovation and digital transformation.
Veteran broadcaster Patrick Oke spoke on the media’s critical role in national development, stressing the need for journalists to strengthen their competence to match modern demands.
Former Lagos Business School lecturer, Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, delivered an engaging session on self-search and transactional analysis. He explained how personal behaviour affects communication, teamwork, and productivity.
He further highlighted the importance of personal effectiveness, encouraging journalists to practise discipline, time management, and intentional decision-making while building positive workplace relationships.
Digital strategist Mr. Abiola Adedeji rounded off the workshop with a session on digital marketing. He detailed how journalists can harness analytics, online tools, and audience insights to expand their reach and produce more impactful stories.
Participants described the training as timely, enriching, and essential for navigating the rapidly evolving media ecosystem. Many noted that the knowledge gained would significantly enhance their work and help them stay competitive in the digital age.
