…Warns Others Over Delays
By Rosemary Okoduwa
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has applauded road contractors delivering quality work across Edo South Senatorial District, while issuing a stern warning to firms failing to meet project specifications and timelines.
The governor gave the warning during an inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects in the district, stressing that his administration will not tolerate delays or substandard execution.
According to the governor, the inspection was aimed at identifying serious contractors and holding erring ones accountable.

“We went to Church Road and Upper Ekenwan Road and we were not too happy with the contractor there. We have made our observations known. If by the time we return nothing has changed the way we want it, we can revoke that job,” Okpebholo said.
He, however, expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work at other project sites, commending contractors in Ogheghe and along Old Sapele Road for their professionalism.
“I am very happy with the contractor handling the job in Ogheghe. They are doing a very good job. I am also happy with the contractor handling Sapele Road. They are doing a very good job,” the governor added.
Okpebholo emphasized that road construction remains a top priority for his administration, especially with the rainy season approaching.
“We will continue to monitor these projects closely, even at weekends. There is no time to waste. If we are not working, nothing will be achieved,” he said.
Linking the projects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, the governor noted that visible infrastructure is key to restoring public confidence in governance.

“One of the ways to bring renewed hope is through the construction of roads. That is how our people will know that we are delivering on our promises,” he said.
Projects inspected during the tour include the 1.4-kilometre Charismatic (Church) Road off Ekhenwa Road; Old Sapele Road linking Agip, Ohogbohi and Ogheghe communities; Ogheghe Road off Sapele Road; and the Sapele Road Bypass.
Residents of the benefiting communities turned out in large numbers to welcome the governor, commending his administration for what they described as visible and impactful development.
The governor was accompanied by top government officials, including the Edo State APC Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, and other senior government functionaries.
Details of the inspection were contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Edo State, Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick, on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
