Residents, traders and motorists around the Ikpoba Hill and Ramat Park axis of Benin City have expressed strong support for the ongoing construction of the Ikpoba Hill Flyover, describing the project as a major catalyst for economic growth, improved traffic flow and urban renewal.
The commendations were contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick, PhD, on Monday, January 5, 2026.
According to the statement, the flyover currently under construction marks the first of its kind in Edo State and is a flagship infrastructure project of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration, aimed at addressing long-standing traffic congestion along one of Benin City’s busiest corridors.

Speaking on the impact of the project, Mr. Lawrence Agwanhima said the flyover would significantly improve economic activities and enhance the aesthetics of the Ikpoba Hill environment.
“It will improve the economy of this area and also improve the beauty of this place. Movement here used to be very difficult, but this flyover is a good one. Let the governor continue the good work,” he was quoted as saying.
Addressing concerns about hoodlums occupying spaces under the bridge, Agwanhima dismissed such fears, noting that similar challenges existed even before the project and should not be used to stall development.
The statement also quoted Mrs. Ese Juliet as saying the flyover would bring lasting relief to the persistent traffic congestion experienced along the axis, especially during market days.
“There is always traffic on this road, particularly during market days. We thank God that traffic will reduce after the bridge. My advice is that the government should complete it on time and expand the road to prevent future congestion,” she said.
A trader at Ramat Park, Master David Okhaishebor, described the flyover as an innovative intervention that would ease movement and improve business activities in the area.
“The flyover is good. We thank the governor for the innovation. Hold-up will reduce, and vehicles will move smoothly. It will also help to keep the environment orderly,” he said.
For long-time business operators, the statement noted that the project carries deep economic significance.
Mr. Chijioke Akaru, who has operated a pharmacy shop at Ramat Park for over three decades, said traffic congestion had negatively affected businesses over the years. The flyover will improve the economy of Edo State and reduce go-slow at Ikpoba Hill. I have been here for more than 30 years, and I know what traffic has done to businesses here,” he stated.
The Ikpoba Hill Flyover, according to the statement, aligns with the Okpebholo administration’s broader commitment to infrastructure development, improved mobility and sustainable urban planning in Edo State.
