The Edo State Government has confirmed the arrest of the founder of the Royal Life of Christ Brethren Ministry, Bishop Gideon Osagie Osazee, following allegations of prolonged sexual abuse involving two biological sisters who were minors at the time the incidents allegedly occurred.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, said the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the victims, who alleged that the cleric abused them over several years. According to the sisters, the suspect allegedly exploited trust built through close religious and family ties, using intimidation, threats, and enforced oaths to silence them and prevent disclosure.
The victims stated that the prolonged abuse left them emotionally and psychologically traumatized. They explained that they eventually found the courage to confide in a trusted family member, whose support encouraged them to speak out and formally report the matter to the appropriate authorities.
Mrs. Abdallah disclosed that upon receiving the complaint, the ministry immediately activated child protection protocols and worked closely with security agencies and relevant partners to ensure the safety of the victims, provide psychosocial support, and gather credible evidence to aid investigations. She revealed that despite attempts by the suspect to evade arrest, sustained efforts by the government led to his apprehension after months of tracking.
She further confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution, stressing that the government is determined to pursue the case to its logical conclusion and ensure justice for the victims.
The Commissioner emphasized that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo has zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, particularly crimes involving children and vulnerable persons. She stated that no individual, regardless of religious status, influence, or position in society, would be shielded from the law.
According to her, the arrest serves as a strong warning to those who may attempt to abuse positions of trust and authority, reaffirming the government’s resolve to protect the rights and dignity of all Edo residents.
Mrs. Abdallah also called on victims and survivors of abuse to break the silence, assuring them that Edo State has functional reporting and response mechanisms in place. She highlighted the availability of Sexual Assault Referral Centres across the state, where survivors can access medical care, counseling, and legal support in a safe and confidential environment. She noted that silence only empowers perpetrators, while timely reporting helps stop abuse, secure justice, and protect others from harm.
Meanwhile, the Manager of the Vivian Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Dr. Faith Edebor, confirmed that the victims were promptly received at the centre and provided with comprehensive medical and psychological care. She stated that thorough medical examinations and psychological assessments were conducted, with preliminary findings aligning with the accounts provided by the victims.
Dr. Edebor assured the public that the case remains under active investigation and reaffirmed the commitment of all relevant authorities to ensure that justice is pursued in strict adherence to due process and established legal procedures.
