The Edo State Government (EDSG) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to jointly establish a 10,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) condensate refinery in Edo State.

According to a statement signed by Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the refinery project is scheduled for completion within 24 to 36 months and will be sited across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas of the state.

When operational, the refinery is projected to produce about 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily, supplying Edo State and neighbouring regions.

Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this while receiving the Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, and members of his management team during a courtesy visit to Government House, Benin City. The governor described the investment as a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the refinery would stimulate job creation, reduce poverty, and strengthen Edo State’s industrial base, assuring the NNPC delegation of his administration’s unwavering support to ensure the project’s success.

He further assured that the state government would provide land, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), security, and all necessary logistics to fast-track the project.

“Security will not be an issue. Edo State is safe for business, and we will do everything required to protect investments. The political will of this administration is fully behind this initiative,” Governor Okpebholo added.

Earlier, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia described the condensate refinery as a sustainable investment designed to drive revenue generation, create employment opportunities, and promote industrial and economic development in Edo State.

Also speaking, the Chief Downstream Investment Officer, NNPC Limited, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, said the project would position Edo State as a major energy and industrial hub in the South-South region. He added that the refinery would enhance investor confidence, align with Governor Okpebholo’s industrialisation agenda, and significantly expand employment opportunities for Edo residents.
