Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the ongoing Ikpoba Hill Flyover at Ramat Park, as well as the accompanying erosion control project in the area.

According to a statement signed by Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the governor made a brief stop at the project site while returning from Udomi-Uwessan, Irrua, where he attended a three-day Strategic Leadership Retreat for political appointees.

The inspection, the statement noted, formed part of the administration’s routine monitoring of critical infrastructure projects to ensure quality execution and timely completion.

Speaking from the top of the flyover during the visit, Governor Okpebholo said he was impressed by the level of work done so far, stressing that the inspection was meant to motivate contractors to sustain the current momentum.

“It’s our normal routine check, just to see what they are doing, and for them to know that we are serious. They must also buckle up and ensure that this job is completed with all the speed it requires,” the governor said.

He commended the contractors for the visible progress on site, noting that the project is already approaching completion.
“They are doing a good job. You can see that they have started backfilling, and once this section is cast, the project will be at the point of completion,” he added.

Governor Okpebholo was taken round the project site by Mr. Lee, the Project Manager of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the firm handling the construction.

The governor’s visit sparked excitement among traders and residents in the area, with market activities reportedly paused as people trooped out to cheer him during the inspection.

One of the traders, visibly elated, expressed appreciation for the project, saying the flyover has brought renewed hope and joy to the community.

“I am so excited with what I am seeing today. This flyover bridge is giving us joy. When we saw the governor on top of the bridge checking the work, we prayed for him that God will bless his efforts. He is a good man,” the trader said.

The Ikpoba Hill Flyover and erosion control works, the statement added, underscore the Okpebholo administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, improved traffic flow, and sustainable environmental management in Benin City.
