The Director-General of the Edo State Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability(DEQA), Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, has commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the successful hosting of the maiden Leadership Orientation and Strategy Retreat for public and civil service leaders, describing it as historic, visionary, and unprecedented in the state’s governance journey.

Dr. Ogbemudia gave the commendation at the end of the three-day retreat with the themed “High Performing Public Service for Sustainable Development of Edo State,” held from February 2 to 5, 2026, at Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area, noting that the programme was the first of its kind in Edo State in both scope and impact.

According to her, the retreat clearly demonstrated Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to building a disciplined, forward-thinking, and results-driven public service anchored on accountability, teamwork, and strategic leadership. “This retreat is not just another government programme; it is a bold statement of intent,” she said. “It shows a governor who understands that sustainable development begins with the right mindset, shared vision, and properly equipped leadership.”

She explained that the sessions were carefully structured to intellectually challenge participants, re-orient their leadership approach, and align them with the administration’s vision for effective service delivery across all sectors of the state.

Dr. Ogbemudia also emphasized that the choice of Udomi as the retreat location significantly enhanced its success, describing the serene and distraction-free environment as a strategic advantage. “The calm surroundings of Udomi provided the perfect atmosphere for deep reflection and meaningful engagement,” she noted. “Away from the usual distractions, participants were able to focus fully, connect genuinely, and absorb each session with clarity and renewed purpose.”

She added that the retreat fostered unity among government officials, reduced bureaucratic barriers, and strengthened collaboration across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Dr. Ogbemudia further commended Governor Okpebholo for prioritizing leadership development and capacity building, noting that such investments would yield long-term benefits in governance efficiency and public confidence.

She expressed optimism that the lessons and strategies from the retreat would translate into improved policy execution and better outcomes for the people of Edo State, while calling for the initiative to be institutionalized as a regular feature of governance. “If Edo State must sustain progress, platforms like this retreat must be maintained,” she concluded.
