The drive to strengthen public service delivery in Edo State has received a boost as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA), Dr Amen Ogbemudia paid a courtesy visit to the Edo State Health Regulatory Management Agency (EDOHERMA), proposing closer collaboration between education and health regulators.
The visit, which was centered around the theme “Collaboration in Setting High Standards for Health Education through the DEQA SHINE Agenda,” brought together key stakeholders from both agencies to explore ways to strengthen their collaboration and drive excellence in healthcare and education.

Director-General of DEQA, in her address, eulogised the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his unwavering commitment to improved service delivery and people centered governance. She once again congratulated the Governor on his recent recognition as Best Governor in Education, describing the award as a well deserved honour. She emphasized the importance of quality education in laying the foundation for professionalism, safety consciousness, empathy, and excellence in healthcare. She highlighted the DEQA SHINE Agenda, which represents a framework for setting and enforcing clear benchmarks for health education, hygiene practices, safety culture, and professional conduct.

The SHINE Agenda, which stands for Standards, Holistic Development, Inclusion, Nurturing, and Excellence, is expected to guide both education and health systems toward efficiency, effectiveness, and professionalism. The partnership between DEQA and EDOHERMA aims to promote high standards in health education, strengthen school health programmes, and support mental wellbeing awareness for learners and teachers.
The collaboration is expected to yield significant benefits, including the production of better prepared future health professionals, improved community health literacy, and a culture of standards, accountability, empathy, and excellence across both sectors.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary/ CEO of EDOHERMA Dr. Adesuwa Uroghide welcomed the partnership and praised Governor Okpebholo for his outstanding achievements in both education and healthcare. She described the Governor as a leader driven by excellence, accountability, and innovation, expressing confidence that with the groundbreaking reforms such as EDOHERMA, Edo State is firmly on course to earning even greater recognition, including Best Governor in Healthcare. She noted that the collaboration between DEQA and EDOHERMA would improve health literacy, prepare future health professionals, and build a stronger culture of standards and accountability across Edo State.
