SMAGOGA Honours Okpebholo with OPAL Award for Outstanding Governance

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has been honoured with the prestigious OPAL Award for Excellent Performance by the St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association (SMAGOGA) in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides and commitment to good governance in Edo State.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the award was presented during the 2026 SMAGOGA Awards and Alumni Gala Night held at The Madison Place, where distinguished alumni and guests gathered to celebrate excellence, leadership, and service.

The honour comes shortly after Governor Okpebholo was conferred with the 2025 Best Governor of the Year in Education Award by New Telegraph Newspaper, further highlighting growing recognition of the administration’s efforts in advancing development and improving governance in Edo State.

The OPAL Award for Excellent Performance was received on behalf of the governor by Omorede Osifo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization, who represented the Edo State Government at the colourful ceremony.

Speaking after receiving the award, Osifo conveyed the appreciation of Governor Okpebholo to the association for recognizing the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition Edo State through people-oriented policies and sustainable development initiatives. She noted that the recognition by an influential alumni body such as SMAGOGA further deepens the government’s resolve to continue implementing programmes that improve infrastructure, empower citizens, and strengthen institutions across the state.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering inclusive governance and meaningful development that will positively impact communities in every part of Edo State. He described the recognition as a collective honour for the people of the state and pledged to sustain policies and programmes that will continue to drive Edo’s growth and development.

The St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association is widely known for promoting education, empowering women, and supporting initiatives that contribute to societal progress. The event attracted members of the SMAGOGA alumni network, corporate leaders, professionals, and notable Nigerians who gathered to celebrate leadership, service, and the enduring legacy of the institution.
