In commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration, the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development on Thursday honoured the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, with the Exceptional Medical Administrator of the Year Award.
The recognition took place during the International Women’s Day grand finale held at the Edo State Government House, Benin City, where the professor was celebrated for her outstanding contributions to healthcare administration and her inspiring role in advancing women’s leadership in the medical profession.
Presenting the award, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, described Prof. Ize-Iyamu as an accomplished professional and a role model whose achievements continue to inspire young girls and women to pursue excellence in their chosen careers.
She commended the UBTH Chief Medical Director for her outstanding leadership, dedication and significant contributions to strengthening healthcare delivery through effective medical administration.
According to the commissioner, Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s commitment to excellence, innovation and quality service has greatly improved healthcare services and positively impacted the lives of many people in the state and beyond.
Extolling her leadership qualities, Abdallah stated “in recognition of your outstanding leadership, dedication and exceptional contributions to effective healthcare administration, your commitment to excellence, innovation and quality service has significantly strengthened healthcare delivery and improved the lives of many. Your professionalism and vision continue to set a remarkable standard in medical administration.”
The 2026 International Women’s Day celebration is themed “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” highlighting the global call for stronger commitment to gender equality, protection of women’s rights and inclusive opportunities for women and girls across all sectors.
