The Edo South Women for Good Governance have called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oredo Federal Constituency to rally behind Hon. Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu as the party’s preferred candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The call was contained in a statement signed by the National President of the group, Pastor (Mrs.) Maureen Ediagbonya, and the National Secretary, Sonia Edobor, who noted that as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, party stakeholders must begin to reflect on the kind of representation that will best advance the interests of the people of Oredo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
According to the group, for a constituency as politically significant as Benin City and the wider Oredo Local Government Area, the choice of candidate must be guided by competence, experience, and a genuine commitment to community development.
The women group stated that among the credible leaders whose names continue to resonate across political and community circles is Hon. Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, whom they described as a respected administrator and development-oriented leader with a proven track record of service.
They noted that Dr. Iyamu brings to the table a combination of academic excellence, leadership experience, and grassroots connection, adding that his background in business administration and governance has equipped him with the knowledge and exposure required to effectively engage in legislative responsibilities and policy discussions at the national level.
The statement further highlighted his record in public service, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Education in Edo State, where he played a significant role in strengthening the education sector through improved monitoring of schools and initiatives aimed at enhancing learning outcomes for pupils across the state.
They also pointed out that Dr. Iyamu remained committed to improving access to quality education by championing policies that helped bring children off the streets back into the classroom. He also supported the reconstruction of over 90 public schools across the state with the backing of the performing Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
“These efforts significantly improved the learning environment for thousands of pupils and reaffirmed government’s commitment to human capital development,” the statement added.
Beyond infrastructure development in the education sector, the group explained that Dr. Iyamu also facilitated opportunities for Edo students to benefit from international exposure through programmes that sponsored students to China for specialized training and through collaboration with the Turkish government to secure fully funded scholarships for Edo students.
They further noted that he introduced policies aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents, including the transfer of textbooks from graduating students to their younger counterparts and the elimination of the compulsory use of workbooks, thereby making education more accessible and affordable for many families.
Ediagbonya and Edobor also emphasized that Dr. Iyamu’s connection with the grassroots and his involvement in community-based initiatives and humanitarian activities have earned him goodwill among many residents of the constituency.
According to them, his background in private enterprise also provides him with practical insight into economic development, job creation, and entrepreneurship, which are critical areas that require strong advocacy at the National Assembly.
The Edo South Women for Good Governance therefore appealed to the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to kindly release Dr. Paddy Iyamu to serve the good people of Oredo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in Abuja.
They expressed confidence that Dr. Iyamu possesses the experience, vision, and dedication required to effectively champion the interests of the people of Oredo at the national level.
The group added that for the APC in Oredo, unity and strategic leadership will be essential as the party prepares for the 2027 elections, noting that Dr. Iyamu is widely regarded as a leader capable of bringing together party stakeholders, youths, women, and grassroots supporters within the party structure.
“Oredo Federal Constituency occupies a central place in the political and economic life of Edo State. The constituency therefore requires a representative who possesses the capacity, vision, and dedication to effectively advocate for its interests at the House of Representatives.
“With his experience, leadership qualities, and commitment to service, Hon. Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu stands out as a strong and credible choice for Oredo in 2027. Rallying behind him will not only strengthen the party internally but also position the APC for electoral success,” the statement concluded.
