The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has strongly condemned a disturbing video circulating on social media which allegedly shows some male students physically assaulting another male student at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City.
In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Eugenia Abdallah, the Ministry described the incident as deeply troubling and completely unacceptable, stressing that violence, bullying and any form of abuse among students undermine the values of respect, safety and dignity that educational institutions are meant to uphold.
The Commissioner noted that schools must remain safe spaces where every child can learn, grow and thrive without fear of intimidation or harm, adding that the Edo State Government places high priority on the welfare and protection of children across the state.
According to her, the Ministry is already engaging with relevant authorities and the management of the school to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken in line with existing child protection laws and school regulations.
Mrs. Abdallah also called on parents, guardians, school administrators and members of the public to reinforce values of empathy, discipline and respect among young people, emphasizing that bullying and violence must never be tolerated in any learning environment.
She further assured the public that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice, accountability and the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry to protecting the rights and welfare of children in Edo State and maintaining safe and supportive environments for their development.
