As the Edo State gubernatorial elections draw near, Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe has assured residents of the state that APC candidate Monday Okpebholo is fully prepared to lead and address the pressing issues facing Edo. This announcement comes at a crucial time when the political landscape is witnessing significant shifts, with a growing number of members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umakhihe, a key figure in the APC, emphasized Okpebholo’s robust plans and strategic vision for the state. “Monday Okpebholo has demonstrated exceptional readiness and a clear roadmap for Edo’s development. His commitment to improving infrastructure, healthcare, and education, alongside his dedication to economic growth, makes him the ideal candidate for the governorship,” Umakhihe stated during an interaction with reporters.
The political scene in Edo has been notably dynamic, with several prominent PDP members recently crossing over to the APC. These defections highlight growing confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership and the APC’s vision for the state. Among the defectors are influential leaders who have cited disillusionment with the PDP’s current direction and a strong belief in the progressive policies proposed by the APC.
These developments are poised to significantly impact the upcoming elections. With the defections bolstering the APC’s ranks, Okpebholo’s campaign is gaining momentum, promising a competitive race. The growing support from former PDP members underscores a shift in political allegiance that could redefine the electoral dynamics in Edo State.
Umakhihe called on all Edo residents to remain engaged and participate actively in the electoral process. “It is imperative that we all exercise our civic duties and vote for a future that promises growth, stability, and prosperity. Monday Okpebholo is prepared to lead us toward that future,” he remarked.
