There was pandemonium on Friday morning at the EUI Event Centre in Port Harcourt, venue for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a pet project of wife of the president, Mrs Remi Tinubu as women of Rivers State walked out on Mrs Theresa Ibas as she was about addressing them.
The programme we gathered was intended to empower 500 Rivers women with livelihoods equipments and cash.
The programme is organised in conjunction with First Ladies across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.
Last year’s edition was spearheaded by Wife of the now suspended Rivers State Governor, Mrs Valerie Fubara who represented the president’s wife.
However, at this year’s edition in the state, women under the aegis of Simplified Rivers Women disrupted the event when Mrs Ibas mounted the rostrum to address them.
A video which has since went viral showed scores of women protesting that Mrs Ibas is not the First Lady of Rivers State and should not address them.
They insisted that Mrs Valerie Fubara is the First Lady of Rivers State and should be the one to address them.
Our correspondent reports that the women who continued the chants while Mrs Ibas spoke later walked out of the hall.
