In a bid to uphold the integrity of the forthcoming Governorship elections in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has issued a stern warning to the citizens against succumbing to the allure of monetary inducements in exchange for votes.
During a live telecast with stakeholders online, Senator Okpebholo emphasized the detrimental consequences of accepting money for votes, cautioning that such actions would compromise the future and prosperity of the state. He urged the electorate to remain vigilant and resist the temptation to be swayed by financial incentives that could ultimately lead to a governance system beholden to vested interests rather than the welfare of the people.
Expressing concern over the misuse of public funds by his opponents, Senator Okpebholo singled out the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and shed light on alleged misappropriation of resources. He revealed that the PDP candidate has been utilizing the deputy governor’s office within the Government House premises in Benin City as his campaign headquarters, further extending his operations to an annex at the Protea Hotel.
This revelation underscores the need for transparency and accountability in political campaigns, with Senator Okpebholo calling upon Edo residents to critically evaluate the actions and intentions of all candidates vying for leadership positions. He cautioned against the manipulation of public resources for personal gains, emphasizing the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the development and well-being of the state over narrow political interests.
The senator’s impassioned plea resonated with many stakeholders, who echoed his sentiments and pledged their commitment to promoting free and fair elections devoid of undue influence or coercion. As the electoral landscape intensifies in anticipation of the upcoming polls, Senator Okpebholo’s message serves as a timely reminder of the fundamental principles that underpin democratic governance and the collective responsibility of citizens to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
