NDE Flags Off Scheme To Empower 93,731 Youths

Port Harcourt- The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) flagged off the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative on Friday, December 6th, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The training is a 3- month scheme in collaboration with the federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and poverty alleviation.
The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Ali Agara Silas, represented by Mrs Maureen U. Okeji (State Coordinator of NDE Rivers), mentioned in his speech that the initiative is designed to engage 93,731 unskilled and unemployed persons across the federation.
DG stated that the selected persons were drawn from the 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria. A minimum of 10 people were recruited for the 30 skill sets across the four programs: vocational skills, development of small-scale Enterprises, Rural employment promotion, and special public works.
The Director General further stated that the scheme also covers school leavers, school dropouts, women, graduates of tertiary institutions, retirees, and persons with special needs and that they will be adequately empowered and linked with credit-granting institutions for further support. He also stated that 40,000 out of the 93,731 persons enrolled would receive ICT and digital skills training with the current developmental strides in ICT.
He thanked all partners and Ministry head and staff for their unwavering support.

“I advised youths to key into the program and use it to develop their states, building their community so that peace will thrive.”
A participant, Ode John, expressed his joy over the flag off of the program and encouraged the government to sufficiently empower and monitor after the training to enable them to stabilize.
He promises to get involved wholeheartedly and develop his community.
