Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has call on Mr. Asue Ighodalo, the defeated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024 governorship election, to accept the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his victory.
The Court of Appeal, in a well-considered judgment delivered on Thursday, upheld the decision of the lower tribunal, validating the overwhelming mandate given to Governor Okpebholo by the people of Edo State. The Governor commended the judiciary for its diligence and commitment to justice, describing the ruling as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law in Edo State.
In a statement signed by the Chief press secretary to the Governor, Mr Fred Itua, theGovernor urged Ighodalo and the opposition to reflect on the judgment, emphasizing that prolonged litigation only serves to distract from the urgent task of governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to developing the state, calling on all stakeholders to join hands in building a more prosperous Edo State.
The Governor assured the people of Edo State that his administration remains fully committed to its “People First” agenda, focused on accelerated development across all sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. He urged citizens to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring them that his government will continue to work tirelessly to serve their best interests.
This development marks a new chapter in Edo State’s political landscape, with Governor Okpebholo’s administration poised to drive growth and development. The question remains: will Ighodalo and the PDP heed the Governor’s call for unity, or will they continue to pursue their agenda? Only time will tell.
