Pres. Tinubu Appoints Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu As Chief Medical Director of UBTH

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu as the new Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), effective August 18, 2025. This appointment marks a new era of transformative healthcare delivery at UBTH, with Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s vision placing patients at the center of every decision.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu brings over 27 years of experience to the role, having joined UBTH in 1997 as a Junior Registrar. She rose through the ranks to become an Honorary Consultant in 2005 and served as Head of Department for over eleven years, earning respect for her integrity, leadership, and institutional knowledge.

As Dean of the School of Dentistry, University of Benin, Prof. Ize-Iyamu has attracted public-private partnerships, mobilized resources, and improved infrastructure, staff welfare, and student training. Her international exposure and global professional networks will introduce cutting-edge innovations and best practices to UBTH.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s leadership will prioritize technology-driven solutions, community outreach programs, and dynamic partnerships, ensuring quality medical services are accessible, efficient, and sustainable. Her goal is to position UBTH as a model teaching hospital in Nigeria, meeting and surpassing international healthcare standards.

The appointment is a testament to the synergy between federal policy direction and state-level commitment, reinforcing Edo’s role as a leading hub for medical excellence in Nigeria. The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has created an enabling environment for quality healthcare delivery, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
