The Edo State Government has reacted to a recent press statement issued by the factional Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “reckless, misleading, and poorly conceived.” The PDP had accused Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, of abdicating their responsibilities and mismanaging state resources.
The Edo State Government clarified that the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, is presently in Edo State, diligently discharging his official responsibilities. The government emphasized that governance in Edo is run on systems, structures, and accountability, not propaganda or guesswork.
The government highlighted that Edo State is currently among the top three states in Nigeria with the highest minimum wage, at ₦75,000. This, they said, is clear evidence of Governor Okpebholo’s prioritization of workers’ welfare.
The government attributed the alleged lack of teachers and poor state of hospitals to the previous administration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, under whom no meaningful recruitment was carried out in the education sector for eight years. They emphasized that Governor Okpebholo’s administration has taken concrete steps to reverse these failures, including: Reconstruction of Oba Market, Massive road rehabilitation projects, Upgrading of Stella Obasanjo Hospital Complex andPrioritizing security.
The Edo State Government urged the public to disregard the falsehoods peddled by the PDP, emphasizing that Edo State is firmly on course under the purposeful leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa. The administration remains resolute in its mission to deliver the dividends of democracy, restore Edo’s pride, and secure a prosperous future for all.
