The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the welfare and empowerment of women and vulnerable groups, following a courtesy visit by members of the City Boys Movement, Women Wing, to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Speaking during the visit, the Edo State Women Leader of the group, Barr. Nana Audu, highlighted the activities of the Women Wing, noting that the movement is actively involved in empowering women and youths through targeted initiatives, community outreach programmes, and sustained advocacy efforts.
Also addressing the Ministry, the Zonal Women Leader for the South-South Zone, Mrs. Helen Omorodion, emphasized the group’s role in promoting civic responsibility, particularly through voter education campaigns conducted across the state. She added that the movement remains committed to grassroots engagement aimed at enhancing citizen participation in governance and driving socio-economic development.
In her response, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, commended the group for its proactive contributions to women and youth empowerment. She described the visit as a positive step towards strengthening collaboration in line with the Ministry’s mandate.
The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s dedication to implementing inclusive policies and programmes that support women, children, and other vulnerable groups. She encouraged the group to sustain its advocacy and community-based interventions, assuring them of the Ministry’s readiness to partner with organisations that share similar objectives.
The visit further underscores the importance of synergy between government and civil society groups in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for citizens across Edo State.
